Location: They are located at Cove Marina in Deerfield beach (135 miles from the Brooks – 2 1/4 hrs). After a short jaunt down the Inter-coastal to the Hillsboro inlet you’ll be fishing in 15 minutes.
They just don’t have to go out far to catch fish. In fact, you are rarely 2-3 miles from shore right in the Gulf Stream… Also, log on to facebook.com/BOLOsportfishing to see the daily catches and updates.
Boat: They now have one boat, a recently overhauled (new twin Cummings diesels) 48’ Merritt with Captain & owner George Disbury – J.T. his usual mate.
At this time they will not offer a Club discount… generally booked solid +diesel prices + huge expense overhauling boat…generally less than our west coast charters….
4 hr. charter at 7:30 am to 11:30 pm and 12:30 to 4;30 $800 + tip Monday through Thursday. $900 + tip Friday – Sunday
6 hr. charter at 7:30 am to 1:30pm $1100 + tip Monday through Thursday. $1200 + tip Friday – Sunday
They also offer a “shared charter” Let’s say only two want to go you can book a shared 4 hr. trip $175 each or 6 hr. $225 each sharing with others Max 6 fisherman.
They also do an 8-hour sword fish trip $2300 in 1000 ft. depths with electric reels.
On their web site they show shared charters & private charters. They list pricing and availability to book. Like Naples it is cheaper & more availability Monday – Thursday. When you book a private charter you can take up to 6 people, which lowers pp. cost, but we have always taken 4 guys and one car. We also preferred 6 hrs. If the trolling is not producing, there is time to bottom fish and cover more area.
Captain George says that mornings are the best fishing. Apparently, the water is so deep and dark that the fish get active and surface feed at 1st light. The fishing is the best when weather is warm!! Cold weather chases the bait fish south…. unless you are bottom fishing in deep water.
BOOKING: Use their web site pick the type of charter, pick an open day, and book. You will be required to use a credit card, and will get a confirmation back along with a “Waiver” sheet to fill out and electrically return. Cancelation refund 24 hours prior…
Bring your snacks and WATER/drinks – they do not provide!!
They will call you if weather seas are bad, and you’ll have an email confirmation with the Captain’s name & phone # etc.
We took one car, left Shadow Wood at 1:00, checked in to La Quinta Hotel 3:30, went to the marina (two miles away) to meet the George and see what was caught, then to the beach area (2 miles) for drinks and dinner. We were up at 6:00, breakfast at 6:15 at the hotel or McDonald’s down the street, and at the boat at 6:45 – back at 1:30, fish cleaned, had lunch – back at the Brooks at 4:30.
Take I-75 S until exit 19, then merging left FL-869 N Sawgrass, to SW 10th St., merge onto I-95N exit 42A fl-810E/Hillsboro Blvd. (to hotel or Marina)
We stayed at La Quinta Hotel (Now part of the Wyndham Hotels. I-95 & Hillsboro East. 954-421-1004 (older, clean, good firm beds, free to go breakfast) AAA rate was $85.50 The Cove Marina only @ 2 miles from La Quinta, 1756 SE 3rd Court at COVE PLAZA – just before the bridge!!! The marina is at the end of the plaza. Great place for lunch right in the plaza Sylvain’s.
Dinner spot – Whale’s Rib 2031 N.E. 2nd St. (954-421-8880) not fancy, good seafood and busy. Flanagan’s Seafood bar (kind of a bar/bar) is adjacent to the Whale all about 1/1/2 miles from the marina and a block from the beach) Past few times we dined at JB’s on the Beach outside 300 N.E. 21st Ave. (954-571-5220) better choice, reservation suggested.
