DESCRIPTION:Captain Steve Dall grew up in SWFL with a passion for fishing and conserving our natural resources.  In addition to his charter fishing business out of Bonita Bay Marina\, he devotes most of his time to designing and marketing artificial fishing lures for fresh and saltwater.  His local retail company\, Wyze Guyz Tackle\,  https://wyzeguyztackle.com/ markets its products through 50+ dealers in 10 states.  Locally his lures are available at Master Bait\, Estero River Outfitters\, and Bonita Bay Marina. \nCaptain Steve will tell the fascinating story of the rapid growth of his tackle business\, as well as suggesting the best lures for various fishing situations.

DESCRIPTION:Captain Codty Pierce was selected last February by Calusa Waterkeeper’s board to succeed retiring Calusa Waterkeeper\,  John Cassani. (https://calusawaterkeeper.org).  Codty\, a Lee County native who grew up fishing in our area waters\, founded a successful fishing guide and charter business in 2016.  As the new Calusa Waterkeeper\, he is often featured on local TV and tradeshows. \nIn his new capacity\, he continues to work to strive for better environmental standards\, monitor water quality and algal blooms throughout our estuary\, and spotlight the need to improve water quality throughout SWFL.  \nAt the conclusion of our regular meeting\, BFC member Tom Heaton will describe the basics of our monthly pontoon trips in Estero Bay.  He will cover all the basics\, intended primarily for our newest members.  In addition\, it should be interesting for more experienced members who’ve been off Estero Bay for over a year.   \n

DESCRIPTION:At SWCC\, since the Enrichment Center is being remodeled. \nOur speaker is Captain Mark Yimin who has been a full-time guide in Estero Bay for over 10 years (http://calusafishing.com).  Last season Mark was selected as one of our featured back bay guides.  His presentation will include an update on fishing conditions and water safety issues in Estero Bay a year after the hurricane; how to find good fishing spots; and how to adapt to different wind and tide conditions.\n \nAt the conclusion of our regular meeting\, there will be a panel discussion on saltwater fishing.  It will be led by BFC members Joe Shannon\, Ron Pierce and ­­one other.  They will be describing our BFC offshore trips that depart from Naples\, Islamorada in the Keys\, and the East coast of Florida.  \n

DESCRIPTION:Captain Justin Stuller\, part owner and manager of Estero River Outfitters has enthusiastically agreed to be our April speaker.  He will trailer over  fishing kayaks to park on grass outside EC.  He’ll speak about fishing\,  pleasure\, and sunset trips by canoe or kayak.  He also does guided fishing trips by kayak in the Estero River or Estero Bay.  His fishing kayaks are really well outfitted.  Captain Justin described fishing from a fishing kayak in the Estero River and Estero Bay. We learned that ERO stocks a variety of bait and tackle\, as well as offering guide services. Members visited with Justin outside prior to the meeting while inquiring about various features of the  kayaks.  \n

DESCRIPTION:Captain Leiza is a well-known representative of Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) of Florida (ccaflorida.org) which is dedicated to advising and educating the public on conservation of marine resources\, and anglers’ access to them.  Leiza is Director of their STAR fishing tournament for all age groups in Florida. \nCaptain Leiza is expected to discuss inshore habitat restoration efforts (i.e.\, seagrass\, oyster beds\, etc.)\, and the CCA’s restocking of redfish in SWFL. \n

DESCRIPTION:Steve Sarkozy\, Estero Village Manager \nSteve has served as our Village Manager since 2015\, after having 35 years of local government experience. He serves as the CEO of the Village\, reporting to the Village Council. \nSteve is expected to update us on the most significant plans and events in Estero\, including planned development of residential communities\, sports       venues\, and medical facilities. Steve’s comments are expected to focus\, in part\, on issues most relevant to residents of the Brooks and our surrounding area.

Despite our earlier fears\, he described recent fishing in the Bay as outstanding…maybe the best in years. \nHe also touched on his experience of shuttling stranded residents off the barrier islands and his efforts to provide food and necessary supplies to the areas most devastated by Hurricane Ian. \nCaptain Debbie Hanson\, Fishing Charter Captain\, Outdoor Writer\, and Radio Host  \nShefishes2\, a fresh-water expert specializing in spin and fly-casting for largemouth bass and exotic species\, including Peacock Bass and Mayan Cichlids \nCaptain Debbie conducted a clinic on exotic species and how to catch Mayan Cichlids in the Brooks ponds. \n\n

DESCRIPTION:Todd Dutro\, Owner \nMaster Bait and Tackle (MBT)\, a well-established retailer on Bonita Beach Rd.\, specializing in bait\, tackle\, supplies and apparel for guides\, local fishermen and tourists. \nTodd recounted his acquisition of MBT during Covid\, his focus on modernizing the business and strengthening the MBT brand.  He also described the harsh realities of Hurricane Ian on his and other fishing-related businesses. \nIn November\, over 350 members of the fishing community turned out for a fund raiser to help MBT to offsett  some hurricane-related costs.
